What is a Pump Track
A circular riding track 110 meters in length that includes rollers (smooth mounds) and berms (raised turns), where one cycles not by pedaling but rather by carefully timed body motions (“pumping”) while creating and maintaining riding inertia.
Pump tracks are the ultimate cycling park open to the public at all hours of the day
Standard pump tracks are designed for areas of 1,000 m2 or more.
Standard Pump Track Features
Complex Size – The track is designed for a surface of 1,000 square meters. It is possible to design and adjust the track shape to the existing terrain.
Track Rate – The pump tracks level of difficulty is designed and customized for each client according to his or her demands.
Ages and Levels – Suitable for riders of every age or level.
Bicycle Types – Suitable for all types of bicycles.
Planning – Designed using professional and dedicated architectural planning.
Aesthetics – An aesthetic space, green and natural, that blends with the environment, friendly and inviting to the riding public and their families.
Advantages – Provides for an effective training facility for riders of all levels and a dedicated platform for organized activities such as riding classes, competitions, summer camps and rider meet-ups, all in a safe and inviting environment.
Pump tracks are built in safe environments where the risk and speed are lower while the level of improvement and enjoyment are higher.
Pump tracks are suitable for all types of bicycles and for every rider, from five-year-olds to professionals, where children first ride with pedaling as they improve their proficiency, while professional cyclists can ride without pedaling and improve their skills and their heart and lung endurance, in an effort to complete as many loops as possible without pedaling.
Advantages for the Rider
Completing a pump track loop takes a relatively short time and allows a learning experience of quick and dynamic improvement with each loop and an immediate sense of accomplishment.
Developing co-ordination, agility, body language, overcoming obstacles, anaerobic training, upper body muscle training, sprinting.
Riding on the pump track is done using the “pumping” technique. A rider riding the track will have to take a break after a short time in order to recuperate, and this increases the interaction between the riders as a larger number of riders are using the track simultaneously.
Pump tracks are a facility for fitness and for improving one’s riding technique to the highest level.
Safety
Pump tracks are designed as a safe environment providing a riding experience with a sense of safety.
Pump tracks are built from durable materials that, combined with the soft and natural surrounding environment, offer the rider a sense of safety in case of a fall.
Instructional and guiding signage creates a safe and responsible environment when using the facility.
Infrastructure and Materials
The track surface is made of a reinforced asphalt concrete foundation coated using epoxy and acrylic paint available in a variety of colors, placed using a unique technique and giving the track durability over use and weather, protection from UV rays and surface heating. The surface complies with the American LEED@ Credits standard for green building (an index for the ability of a material to reject solar energy).
The track surface was designed and fitted by Mountain Goat for the sole use of extreme riding on pump tracks; the surface went lab friction tests to adapt to the level of grip needed for its purpose.
During design and execution, special attention was given to draining the surface and the entire track; drainage components are utilized during construction; the facility can withstand rains and drains large amounts quickly, thus ensuring safe reuse of the track a shortly after rains.
Stabilizing the slopes using vegetation is important to protect against erosion over time, for the safety and aesthetics of the facility.
Multiple Users
Using a surface coated with epoxy and acrylic paint allows the track to be used also by Carver skateboards, kick scooters and roller skates – an innovative solution that answers the needs of multiple users.
